What lies at the root of the world’s problems? The Holy Bible says, many things can be traced to the love of money? I consider arrogance and intellectual sloth as follies that always occur alongside the foolish obsession with money. After all, what other forces but vanity, and arrogance can lead to a wasteful worship of things so temporary as those that exist in this world? Or, intellectual sloth at the root of the denial of the existence of a living God; the object of intelligent worship instead of “money and how possessing sinful amounbts of it, can improve one’s self-image”. Here’s a video to warm the heart before I proceed with my silly rant…
Our high school principal assumed for himself, full responsibility for everything that went wrong on his watch. Although we thought him a bit of a creep at the time, I now realise what a lovely old dinosaur he is. God bless his good heart. And while I am at it, God bless the ill-informed as well. As far as my principal was concerned, when it came to any problem in the life of any of his students, the buck stopped with him. Everything was his baby. He would say that “a fish rots from the head first”, himself being the head. While that may or may not be true in Education, in a democracy I think one has to remember that it is the electorate who must take the responsibility. After all, real power is vested in the voters. The fish analogy applied to leaders, assumes that we are talking about an autocratic society. But how can the ill-informed make good decisions, you ask? In the end, it comes back to education and what my principal used to say, but who is the big fish in this case?
My take on this is, the community members or parents are always the real leaders and it is they who must accept the responsibility for the ills of society, not the leaders, law enforcement, or any section of society be they “criminals”, “illegal-immigrants”, “muslims”, “terrorists” etc. These are just the scape goats that lazy people come up with when they do not want to accept some blame themselves. Who can deny that when we point a finger, there are always more fingers pointing back at “me”? My conclusion is, “if the teachers suck, it’s Mommy and Daddy’s fault”. They are the head of the household, or “the head of the fish” to extend on the analogy.
As to the problem in the world today, it is NOT GW Bush, or the American people, or the American Way – NO WAY. Even though GW Bush has been in the news making all the biggest blunders that have led to a small minority making all the money while a poor majority has paid for it all with their lives. Neither is the problem “The Media” or “Education”, because Leaders and The Media and Schools, reflect the societies they serve. The problem is really the people themselves: lazy, apathetic, arrogant communities, parents; It isn’t GWB but quite simply “the voters themselves”. The decided lack of comments from Americans on this blog, led me to consider the link between this silence and the ills of this world 9well, okay, I am allowed to dream that my blog is that important). Is it a “false identity” and a psychological phenomenon called “dissonance” which inhibits any real discussion and leads to a dangerous level of intolerance, and intellectual stagnation? The arrogance of Lee Bollinger gave me reason to finally rest with that conclusion at least for now anyway.
Of course, I do not leave myself out of the blame game. My blog may leave a lot to be desired. I may be rude, as someone said on Aput’s vox.blog a while back. I may be unfairly anti-American, as “Scio, Scio” alluded to me as being when he wanted me to leave a vox discussion about “the problem of criminal immigrants” in the USA. So I try even harder to improve my blog posts. Do more research, desist from commenting on unknown bloggers’ posts. In general, I now assume that there exists, differences and information gaps between myself and any blogger and indeed myself and any topic. It’s all part of my learning curve and a revision of good old, time-tested scientific principals, applied to blogging and to life.
I accept responsibility for the deaths in Iraq, the continuation of Apartheid under a new guise, and the continued building of walls in Palestine, starvation, the spread of AIDS, the moral decay of western society, terrorism, EVERYTHING is my fault. Hence i do what i can to try and unravel these problems, or else they will eat silently at my soul, and my silence would condemn me to the most serious punishment that awaits all of us who are to blame.
So, if the problem of this world is the “Coalition of the Ill-informed”, then the ROOT of the Problem must be Arrogance, Apathy and Lazy Parents and THE LOVE OF MONEY.
